William Baxter and Bryan Norton offer two distinct ideological and practical approaches to the broader environmental worldview of planetary management. Baxter was a Stanford law professor who delved into animal rights and environmental policy in his 1974 book, People or Anthropocentrism is the world view which sees human beings as being at the centre of all creation. It requires that the world be viewed from the perspective of humans; that is, it is to be valued, understood and utilized in terms of human needs. Anthropocentrism is a world view that considers humans to be the most important factor and value in the Universe.

Anthropocentrism is a world view that considers humans to be the most important factor and value in the Universe. In contrast, the biocentric world view considers humans to be no more than a particular species of animal, without greater intrinsic value than any of the other species of organisms that occur on Earth. Worldview Anthropocentrism, philosophical viewpoint arguing that human beings are the central or most significant entities in the world. This is a basic belief embedded in many Western religions and philosophies. Another central point to Baxter’s anthropocentric worldview is the concept of waste and efficiency. Acknowledging that their is a fixed amount of biological and manual capital on Earth he thinks the worst thing human can do, from an environmental and economic standpoint, is to waste that capital.
